Meet the Founder
Marva Shand-McIntosh is a nationally certified Speech Language Pathologist who is working in the District of Columbia Public Schools. She holds a Masters degree in Speech Communications from Tennessee State University. Her responsibilities include evaluating students’ ability to listen for educational and social benefits and providing goals for therapeutic intervention. Most recently, she served as the supervisor for speech pathology and audiological services for over 4,000 students and their families in the Nation’s capital -District of Columbia. Her professional activities include membership in the International Listening Association, the American Speech Language and Hearing Association, and the District of Columbia Speech-Language-Hearing Association. As part of an ongoing commitment to forging partnerships between public school and other educational institutions, Marva consulted as a teacher partner for the Smithsonian Institute, Center for Education and Museum studies. She also guest lectures on listening at various college campuses and in the community Her work with community organizations and professional bodies is considerable and includes School Board chair and PTA leader for George E. Peters Elementary school in Hyattsville, Maryland, President of Metropolitan Health Professional Association, and Producer- Radio Reading Service, WLRH-FM Huntsville, Alabama. Marva has presented papers at national conferences, organized health fairs in Antigua, St. Lucia, Jamaica, Guyana, as well as within the state of Maryland.
